Essential improvements

Steam keeps doing first installation every time

Pretend dependencies installation[3][4]
  1. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Valve\Steam\Apps\228400
  2. Verify that there are three separate REG_DWORD entries named directx, live and vcredist.
  3. For any that are missing, right-click an empty area in the right-side panel and select New -> DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  4. Ensure that all three entries have a Value data of (1).

Patches

A title update for the GFWL version is available. The game should automatically prompt for the update when using a LIVE profile; the update can also be downloaded manually (extract the contents and run setup.exe).

Issues fixed

Frequent crashing during missions

On Windows 10, the game will crash to desktop within a few minutes of starting a mission.
Set Windows 7 compatibility mode[citation needed]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>. Right-click Ace Combat_AH.exe and select Properties.
  2. On the Compatibility tab, check the box next to Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows 7 from the drop-down box.

Crash to desktop after mission complete

Game repeatedly crashes to desktop at the end of certain missions before the cutscene is displayed.
Switch to windowed mode[7]

Switching to windowed mode before the end of the mission and then switching back to fullscreen afterwards appears to resolve this problem.

Update graphics drivers[7]

Others have reported that updating graphics drivers to the newest version resolves this issue.

Title screen control glitch

Game does not respond past the title screen, merely cycling through all buttons regardless of whether or not a controller or keyboard is used.
This issue appeared after the Steamworks update.
Disable Bluetooth adapter and not needed input devices[8][9]
  1. Disable computer's Bluetooth adaptor (if it possesses one) in the system tray.
  2. Additionally, go to the device manager and disable Bluetooth adapter in there.
  3. If this doesn't help, disable other input devices (like drawing tablets and joysticks in it).
Remove config files[citation needed]
  1. Go to <path-to-game> and delete input.ini.
  2. Go to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\NAMCO\ACAH\ and delete input_<user-id>.ini.
  3. Try running a game in Windows XP compatibility mode.

Control and graphics settings reset between sessions

On some systems control and graphics settings do not save after making changes.
For Windows 10, the gfx_settings.ini file must also be created manually. Use Notepad to create an empty file in the ACAH folder.
Create folders for configuration files[10]
  1. Go to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\
  2. Make a folder named NAMCO
  3. Go into the NAMCO folder and make a folder named ACAH
  4. Launch the game
  5. Edit the in-game graphics and controls settings to generate the necessary files

Consistent freezing

Game plays but freezes for about 20 seconds every few minutes.
Disable multi-GPU mode[11]
This solution is only relevant for those running Nvidia graphics cards.
  1. Open the Nvidia Control Panel.
  2. Go to "3D Settings" and then "Configure Multi-GPU".
  3. Disable multi-GPU mode.

Screen flickering on Windows 8

Start the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode[12]
  1. Go to the installation folder.
  2. Right click on Ace Combat_AH.exe and choose Properties.
  3. In Compatibility tab check Run this program in compatibility mode with and in the box below choose Windows 7.
  4. Click OK and launch the game with Steam.

Notes

  1. Games for Windows - LIVE DRM features: SSA activation, supports local profiles.
  2. 2.0 2.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/228400/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (228400) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
