Age of Mythology: Extended Edition is an updated version of the 2002 fantasy RTS Age of Mythology and its The Titans expansion pack. It features redone effects, native high resolution and multi-monitor support, Steamworks multiplayer and enhanced observer modes.

In January 2016, this version of the game received the Tale of the Dragon expansion which included the Chinese civilization and its belonging campaign, but was received poorly by the fans for its bugs and poor production quality. At the same time, the game was updated to version 2.0 to include several major balance changes and new units available even to players who did not buy the expansion pack.

The game received a large number of post-release patches, but after the latest one (2.8) from June 2020, a large community spreadsheet of issues is still valid, most of which did not exist in the original version of the game (such as poor pathfinding leading to units getting stuck in otherwise inaccessible areas, high GPU load, lobby joining issues and more). The game was stabilized in skirmish and multiplayer, but the Tale of the Dragon campaign remains in a notoriously flawed state, requiring a Steam Workshop mod to make it more enjoyable.

The majority of the competitive community returned to the original version of the game, modified for balance. A proper re-release, Age of Mythology: Retold, was announced in 2022, but little is known of it as of June 2023.

Revised Tale of the Dragon campaign
