Gold Box Companion

Gold Box Companion is a program for Windows that adds various optional features when playing the DOS version in DOSBox (automap, party HUD, raising level restrictions, character editing, etc.)

Sound Effects and Music

Gold Box Sound Hacks allows for Tandy sound effects while using Adlib or Roland MT-32 for music.

Enable PCjr/Tandy sound on DOSBox

Most later releases are configured to use PC speaker sound. DOSBox can be set to emulate the additional sound hardware of PCjr/Tandy systems and the game configured to use PCjr/Tandy for sound instead of more primitive PC speaker.
Edit the configuration file of DOSBox in the installation folder[citation needed]
  1. Open the configuration file of DOSBox and seek tandy setting under [speaker] section. This setting is usually tandy=auto. Change the setting to tandy=on and save the changes.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 1.5 File/folder structure within the installation folder reflects the path(s) listed for DOS game data. For the GOG.com release, file changes in DOSBox are redirected to <path-to-game>/cloud_saves/ even if GOG Galaxy is not used (this folder contains all redirected files, so some files in the cloud_saves folder might be temporary files or other files that do not contain saves or settings).
  2. 2.0 2.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/1904620/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (1904620) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
